Because the Gemini protocol (which is cool/smolweb stuff and has nothing to do with Google or AI) uses port tcp/1965, I really wish there was a DNS SRV record definition for it so I could hit my vanity domain with a Gemini browser and it would Just Work(TM) rather than having to position it at something like gemini.example.com so that I can handle that port outside of Cloudflare for non-HTTP stuff.
Gemini isn't submitted to IETF yet, so I wonder who I should chat with about asking for an IANA service name for a SRV record for it. I realize then it becomes a thing to request or submit a PR for for various clients to support, but, an otter has to start somewhere, huh?

Jojoba ester is a natural emollient derived from jojoba oil. It's packed with fatty acids, closely mimicking the skin's natural oils. This makes it perfect for moisturizing and softening the skin without clogging pores. Great for hydration, hair and skincare products!

I blogged briefly this morning about the W3C. Connected Places has a much longer post today about the new working group and participation.
I’ve submitted my name as an invited expert. I think they will have plenty of ActivityPub experts, but I’d like to help with testing LOLA and updating Micropub.

The most exciting thing to me about #ActivityPub and the #Fediverse is that they also connect #blogs, #RSS, and #indieweb social mentions to #socialmedia in an open, interoperable way.
Frustrating, though, that mainstream users tend to ignore noncommercial solutions that aren't aggressively trying to attract them, especially when the onboarding experience is so confusing to newbies. Even if our tech platforms are ready for prime time, the human networks are only early adopter types.

The internet used to be a collection of homes.
Now it's a row of malls.
We traded the hobbyist era for corporate walled gardens. ICQ is dead, Skype is dead, and the open web is being strip-mined for data.
But remember: the #hashtag was born in 1980s IRC rooms, not a Silicon Valley PR firm.
The Fediverse isn't just a trend - it's a return to what made the web work in the first place.
Protocols over platforms. Always.

THE COVETED GREEN CHECK MARK!! ✅
this also means that... I have successfully moved hosting providers!! 🎉
and my new (paid) provider is of course *not* blocking verification requests.
I ran into some configuration issues initially, but beyond those, it was a remarkably smooth process! I'm glad I pulled the trigger. No it's not free hosting, but it is Canadian, and MUCH faster.
I plan on writing up a more detailed blog post Soon! ™️

WEB DAY! A week from Saturday, on Jan 24th, 2-5pm, Albina Library Rm 2A.
Last time, we discovered how to play ANY Flash game from our childhoods and shared our nostalgic 2 player experiences together on one keyboard. Magical.
Then we surfed web rings, fed digital pets, and explored historic Portland data maps. What will we do this time at WEB DAY? Come find out!
