I’m experimenting with the MCP protocol for Jottit and have the basics of it working. I can now publish new pages by prompting Claude on my mobile or ask it to summarise pages, make edits, etc. I’m not sure what to think of it yet, but I’m definitely intrigued… #jottit #indieweb #ai

It's been a fun weekend building a new working fediverse applikation.

The tech stack so far..

Backend: Go — fast, simple, great concurrency. No magic, just code.

Frontend: SvelteKit — feels like writing HTML that actually works. SSR out of the box.

Database: PostgreSQL — boring in the best possible way.

Queue: Asynq + Redis — async ActivityPub delivery with retry logic. Workers run separately from the API.

Federation: ActivityPub — HTTP signatures, shared inbox, fan-out delivery for groups and followers.

Infra: Docker Compose — one file per instance, easy to spin up new nodes.

Everything self-hostable. No cloud dependencies. No vendor lock-in.

Still early days — but the foundation feels solid.

And yes - A lot of help fra Claude code. I decided to go all in an use big tech to fight big tech.

One of the quirk's of my Pure Blog switch is that I've split short activity logging posts off into a second site to clean my rss feed. Here I've reversed the favicon colors and styled the dashboards so I can tell which admin console I'm in!

Struggling to rank your blog on Google? 🤔

It’s often not about luck — small issues like weak SEO, low-quality content, or missing backlinks can hold you back.

The good part: these can be improved step by step.

I’ve shared a simple guide here:

Have to say, I think the reason the small/indie web is working is because its protocols follow the UNIX philosophy: each is tiny and does one thing well, and the whole shebang (pun intended) makes a well-oiled machine.

Imagine hiring a locksmith who built your safe and still can't open it. Not because they forgot the combination. Because they never had it.

That's zero-knowledge. Your data encrypts before it leaves your device. We hold gibberish. Not a policy. Math.

i'm ewan — developer, writer, occasional poet. i build open-source ATProto tooling,

self-host most of my own infrastructure, and take commissions for things i'm actually

good at.

if any of that is useful or interesting to you, ko-fi.com/ewancroft

is where commissions live:

  • poetry from £10
  • short stories from £20
  • SvelteKit websites from £100

everything's CC BY-SA 4.0. no NDAs, no nonsense.

tips are also welcome if you've got use out of anything i've made or written.

either way, cheers.

Michel de Montaigne retired to a tower in 1571 to ask one question: "What do I know?"
Reading about him this week gave me the nudge to build a small tribute — 107 excerpts from his Essays, one per chapter. 📖

Whether you've never heard of him or know him well, something in here will stop you mid-scroll.
