I've signed up to host the #indieweb fiction carnival for May 2026.

Write a story during the month of May, publish it on your own site, and we'll create a mini-anthology roundup post at the end of the month. All good fun.

Good update on the progress in fediverse UX in this report by Tim Chambers and Sean Tilley. I like this intro to instance selection paralysis:

New users arrive ready to escape Big Tech, and we immediately hit them with 8,000 servers named like medieval taverns crossed with startup pitches.

It's worth checking out as a place to find authentic items to read, view, etc.

Okay, because I want to say a thing in a talk, and I want to see if others agree before I say it:

#IndieWeb types:

Self hosting does not need to mean "hardware you own" and can include "hardware you rent". (EG Would a VPS count as self hosting?)

Happy to hear reasoning for either side or both if you're landing in the middle.

(To be clear: I will be saying this, but whether I say it without qualifiers will depend on if this is largely accepted.)

Agree

I've been working on an update for the last week, I can now write yml powered activity type posts without polluting my main rss feed. Books, TV & Films, Gaming, Places, Puzzles... Coming next, a series of articles on implementing webmentions in PureBlog.

Ever since setting up Indiekit for adding Micropub capabilities to my Hugo blog, I have only used its web UI to post notes, photos, and likes (haven’t tried other clients yet).

The interface is not bad, but one thing that that bugs me is how links are handled. I am so used to directly pasting in URLs into highlighted text and have it automatically become a Markdown link…

@aaronpk
When will Mastodon be a supported authentication provider for the #IndieAuth / #IndieWeb ?

Had Yahoo!Pipes continued we would be using it to read and filter news. We’d use it to republish content #IndieWeb POSSE style. A newsletter/Substack is a feed piped to email. It had potential to be as ubiquitous a tool as spreadsheets. “The algorithm,” but visualized and under end-user control.

Content warning:Repost: rejecting convenience

RNotté shares a manifesto to seek out inconvenience in order to seek greater human connection and authentic experiences. And you know what their post reminds me of? The Matrix!
