Many good #movies! Watched also #Paradise, #DareDevil, #TheBoys, and other #TVShows!
I read two books, and started a new one..
A couple of new #OverUnder posts!
And a good list of links
This is Day 40 of the #100DaysToOffload challenge.

I remember trying it on my iPod Touch for a while, eventually switching back to see color photos.

This morning while chatting with James I asked him about his grayscale setup and why. He pointed out it’s less distracting, a calmer experience, and helps him stay focused when he uses his iPhone for specific tasks.

I decided to give it another try. The setting is quite buried. I changed a few more settings to improve sunlight readability/usability.

⚙️ Settings
⏺ Accessibility >
⏺ Display > Text Size
Bold Text (⚫️ ) [tap/slide this toggle to the right to turn it on]
Increase Contrast (⚫️ ) [tap/slide this too]
Differentiate Without Color (⚫️ ) [tap/slide this too]

In the absence of color on my iPhone, I have spent less time using it today, felt more focused when I used it for a specific task, and have started to feel both less compelled to check things, and less of a “rush” when interacting with iPhone apps and their user interfaces.

Color saturated apps stripped of their color are starting to feel like older apps or appliances. Switching Spotify playlists felt a bit like pressing station presets on a car radio. Discord felt like an enhanced IRC client. Even some of my rotating lock screen landscape photos have strong Ansel Adams vibes, while my urban lockscreen photos have a calmer dreamlike quality.

Perhaps the use of color in user interfaces is the new
chartjunk, extraneous and distracting from the task at hand, just as classic chartjunk is extraneous and distracting from the information being presented.

Using a grayscale iPhone user interface for most of the day has felt noticeably calmer. Enough for me to try it again for at least a few days and see how it goes.

See also James’s write-up on his experience with
using greyscale, when he started, why, why he continues to do so, and instructions for his setup.

Try it for yourself and see how it feels.

May the Force of your own will be with you, free of distractions and dopamine conditioned impulses.",

Build Your Blog in Open Source
Last year (almost to the day), I posted how easy setting up a blog is with mkdocs and surge.sh. Well, now that I have migrated this site to Codeberg, I thought I would update that post. Spoiler Alert: It's still easy.

I finished an English beginner series on building a personal AI workbench.
My starting point: one project folder, one command-line window, one plain-English request, and a habit of checking before confirming.

I've long been on a quest to incorporate personal blogs into my scrolling but could never find a good way to gather and follow interesting ones, esp. ones without RSS.
bubbles.town seems to be what I've been looking for. I just signed up today and have already found some great blogs. It's also part of the fediverse, though not sure exactly how that works. Check it out!

I wrote what Mastodon actually feels like from the inside of a specific community — not the structural case (that was part 1), but what shared context does to what you can write.
some of it is easy to show:
→ @UnfareSF posts "1:26 PM: Fare inspectors on T headed South from Yerba Buena/Moscone Station Southbound" on sfba.social. no explanation of what the T is. you either ride Muni or this post isn't for you.
→ mastodon.art's AI ban isn't a rule members have to work around. it's a description of who the community is for. an artist posting there knows the person replying also makes things by hand.
the pattern: when a community already knows what you know, you can start further into whatever you're trying to say.

I wrote what Mastodon actually feels like from the inside of a specific community — not the structural case (that was part 1), but what shared context does to what you can write.
some of it is easy to show:
→ a post on mastodon.scot about independence referendum discourse doesn't explain what the SNP is. the community already has that context. the post can start further into the argument.
→ on infosec.exchange, a CVE drops and technical analysis starts within minutes. precision norms mean vague claims get corrected — not hostilely, but by people who think carefully about what can and can't be asserted.
the pattern: when a community already knows what you know, you can start further into whatever you're trying to say.

@susam had created #wander (https://codeberg.org/susam/wander) that is like #smallweb.
I've integrated it in my hugo blog site, so I can enlist sites i frequently visit and some posts which are gem of a find.
After using #rss, this has been next good thing for internet.
https://idlip.in/wander/ (this is a content listing page)
and wandering console is at: https://idlip.in/wander/console/
