Reddit is testing blocking some logged-out mobile users unless they use the app.

Sure, they’ll say it’s about “experience”. Maybe part of it is.

But apps are not neutral.

In the app they get more control: tracking, ads, notifications, defaults, metrics. In the browser, less.

This is how the open web gets smaller.

Not in one dramatic event.

One annoying wall at a time.
