I built something I've wanted to exist for years.

“I don’t think about you at all.” — Don Draper

If only it were that easy. Over the last year I’ve been reflecting on why negative, overly-personal complaints have affected me so much. I think it’s two things:

  • I have never needed to grow thick skin. Over a 30+ year career, I’ve been lucky to get along with just about everyone I’ve worked with. I’ve also made a lot of friends in the Mac, iOS, and IndieWeb communities. Can’t really think of anyone being seriously upset with me before.
  • I tend to fixate on things. So if I’m worried about something, I won’t be able to shake it for days or weeks. Negativity doesn’t get brushed off. It lingers for a long time and shapes my thinking on new situations I encounter.

Both of these get better with time. But neither is completely fixable without becoming a different person.

Found a website with a neat visitor counter, it shows a 3D globe and the visitors as emojis. I got freaked out because it showed my IRL name on my dot. Was it using an obscure Android or Samsung API? I was ready to do a full forensic study, hopped to my work machine to investigate, and immediately found that it wasn't my name, it was my ISP's location. There's a Mexico City borough with my name, I just don't live there.

The “blogging is dead” crowd is looking at the gold rush ending and mistaking it for a death. Some of us are just out here building something that lasts. 🌿 #SlowBlogging #IndieWeb
the custom css people loved got a big upgrade: throw out the whole profile template and write your own full html page instead. sandboxed, so it's safe no matter what's in it. cybersoda.blog #indieweb #smallweb #geocities #neocities #webring #oldweb #nostalgia #buildinpublic

IndieWebという動きに乗っかってみた

I love Bearblog but I keep finding deeply, deeply disturbing blogs through the Discover page.

Today I found this gem (not linking since I already reported it to Herman):

"Women must be made to submit, to fulfull their obligations to family and society, or rather the ones that don't are not real women; they're enemies to crush beneath our boots."

This is a person who also runs website in classic #indieweb styling, 88x31 buttons and all.

It's v weird seeing this shit in my online spaces!

I've improved the support for rel=me in the Pagecord navigation and written up how Pagecord uses Microformats as well.

Gotta love the IndieWeb, don't let it die! #indieweb
