Webmentions, easier said than done?

I like the idea of Webmentions, a protocol informing a blogger, website owner, that another blog/website has linked to them. Similar to pingbacks, Webmentions aren't just another tech-gimmick though. In 2017 they were adopted as a recommendation by the W3C, the international body publishing standards for the web. They're also favoured within the IndieWeb/SmallWeb communities. So far, so good. The drawback however comes in their implementation. It's not a simple case of adding a few lines […]

lmao @ someone claiming "the entire indieweb movement" is backed by semantic data (through microformats) when 99% of indieweb that isn't 10 guys with blogs from 2005 is weirdos on neocities who only use a class when they need to apply css to that part of their site
the best part of old-web guestbooks: you didn't just sign your name, you drew a little doodle 🎨 margin does that now — leave a note AND draw a picture, no login needed. come sign mine (go on, draw something): https://margin.perch-app.workers.dev/g/demo0000 #indieweb #guestbook #smallweb
Trivial, but I created a Rust service to redirect to a random entry in my blogroll; no JS required. It fits well in my footer with the webrings. https://codeberg.org/rossabaker/blogroll-the-dice #Rust #IndieWeb

This is one of the many reasons why I still think IndieWeb has the overall better approach to identity. It doesn’t really solve the whole “big pile of feeds” thing though.

For #Blind people looking to make their own websites, I recommend all 3 parts of this podcast series. Part 3 covers Static site generators and #Markdown, which is what I use, but it hasn't been transcribed yet. I'd recommend starting at part 1. https://nfb.org/resources/publications-and-media/access-podcast/part-one-our-look-creating-websites #WebDev #IndieWeb
