Pretty significant design changes coming to Mastodon for version 5.0. I don’t use Mastodon often (my blog posts get to the fediverse from Micro.blog) but these seem like good changes.

Thanks @jalict for the shoutout on this little blog post about getting loops and wearing ear protection. Out of all of the earplugs I have, despite the sometimes incessant advertising for them, Loops has the best carrying case which makes them great for always having on hand. There are so many unexpected situations where I might not have prepared a more curated pair of earplugs. Loops are a great all around option, plus they look cool! If the bud-style earplug doesn't work for you, I can recommend other brands.

Re: The Loss of Links Continues

Just adding my two cents to this discussion about link rot and what we can do about it.

My latest blog post was inspired by @bstn, @jimmitchell, @alexandra, and a handful of others I've been reading lately. I really enjoy reading posts like this and seeing why others do what they do. I know why I do it, but it's reassuring to see I'm not the only one that does it that way.

Thoughts on a revised definition of the #IndieWeb that focuses on the ideas behind it rather than the tools, and argues for placing sovereignty, in its many forms, at the very heart of the IndieWeb.

«Finger: the 1971 social network that never died»

It will surprise more than a few of you to hear that the first social network dates back to 1971; no accounts, no algorithm, no central server, just a plain text file you control.

i would love to use @blento.app as my personal homepage, but i miss a few features. @flo-bit.dev? i don't need too much code customizations, but rel=me tags in head & body, & other indieweb microformat attributes in head would be nice. serving .well-known files, maybe via @wisp.place integration?

Shorter loops, stronger proof.

Reports → reviewed changes. Commits → independent mirrors. Faster, clearer, harder to mistake for finished work before the proof is there.

I think we've been told how we should do websites, how we should put content out there, or even brand ourselves online, to the point that we can't think of anything else beyond that sometimes.

For a while I thought if I didn't do my SEO right, nobody would find my website. So I wrote my articles a certain way, and it killed any joy I had for writing. But when I discovered digital gardens and the indie web, I realized that, you know what, I should stop caring about whether the SEO gods want to bless my website or not.

I think marketing has sort of infected the internet to the point where even ordinary people with nothing to sell feel like they should present themselves online like marketers. We don't have to. There's another way of doing it. So you do you.
