Ended up with this in my reading list today - https://osteophage.neocities.org/essays/indie-web-priorities  - and felt like leaving this here mainly quoting its conclusion as this very much resonates with some of my worries, with my perception of technology and accessibility and making tools available to human beings at large, out there: "... If it [the indieweb] is not for someone whose every dollar is already being sucked up by survival, then it’s not for everyone. If it’s not for the hungry and the homeless then it’s not for everyone. If it’s not for the refugee and the runaway then it’s not for everyone. If it depends on having cash to spare on renting a custom domain name then it’s not for everyone. People in these demographics do use the internet, and they deserve better than to be ground up for a predatory machine, which is why we need more options that are easy and free and independent from venture capital and corporate giants. ..." https://osteophage.neocities.org/essays/indie-web-priorities #indieweb #social_technology #linkdump

Identify pain points in open-source / federated alternatives to corporate web stuff, try to patch them / bridge the gap such that using indieweb tools is less of a "statement" and more of a practical thing that is reasonable to do.

My Terminal Life

I did not plan for my life to be built around the terminal and plain text workflows. However, as I looked for simple solutions that allowed me to own my data and processes, it became a natural evolution.

I took a few hours to add a Webmention feature to my site today, letting those who’ve written a post on their site linking back to one of mine submit the link to the post so it shows up in my Webmentions. It’s what the Indieweb is all about - interconnectedness.
does anyone have a personal site with webmentions? i'd like to indieweb with you if so recommend me one of your blog posts so i can contend with it dialectically on seph.news and test the systems

As Jim Mitchell says, Indieweb is punk, and clearly I like spinning my own threads, but I do have a question: Since you still need to rent a domain name to get on the Web, isn’t there something more indie, like hosting your own server on a mesh network? Did I miss something?

A blog is a zine with better uptime. An RSS feed is a mailing list that never asks for your email. Webmentions are show flyers stapled to telephone poles all over town, pointing back to each other, building the scene a link at a time.

@writingslowly Not totally sure whether this is what you are looking for. Somehow, reading your post, I had to think of the Compu-Global Hyper Mega Net by @CursedSilicon. Check it out at http://cghmn.cursedsilicon.net/.

Inspired by @vhbelvadi's recent blog post on re-defining IndieWeb, I wrote about my current view.

The indieweb is punk You don't need a deal with a label. You don't need a platform's blessing. All you need is an out of tune guitar you can barely play, or a free text editor and a hosting bill. That's it. That's the whole scene. Indiewebispunk
All you need is a free text editor and a hosting bill…the indieweb is punk is the vibe I’m feeling: We Own the Masters Now In the old days, the music industry owned the masters, the distribution, the airwaves. You made the music; they made the money and https://www.soulcruzer.com/notes/6bd151e6b4/
I’m OBSESSED (again) with beholding.space! It’s a place to share links to websites you discover and are inspired by each week, and then find other resources that are ideologically aligned. It curates connections based on ideas rather than engagement or being a "follower". #tech #discovery #indieweb
