I indulged in a little sadness and discovered more about the fascinating life story of Arnold Lobel:
https://kedara.eu/purpose-of-tear-water-tea/

On that subject, I've searched for a biography about Arnold Lobel, but couldn't find an actual book (only online snippets); if anyone knows of one, please tell me.

I've added webmentions here, with the ability to cross post to Mastodon or Bluesky. I'm not sure how often I'll actually do that, but it's nice to have the option. (https://ramkumar.me/notes/2026/08/26/i-added-webmentions-and-crossposting)

@vhbelvadi.com here are my thoughts on your selection for the indieweb book club. Thanks, it was a good read. writingslowly.com/2026/08/26/t...

So #indieweb, right? https://www.yevi.org/ is already a static site in #HTML and #CSS written by hands (my hands). It’s time to fix the deployment process of it because now I’m packing it into a #Docker image with #nginx. So each of my websites is a Docker container with its own Nginx, which is definitely overkill for #indieweb.

I want a single Nginx with several sites. What are my options for automated deployments from #Gitea? #Ansible? Simple scp? I think scp is a nice option.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how much of the modern web requires you to already know what you’re looking for.

Search is brilliant when you have a question. Feeds are brilliant at finding more things adjacent to what you already engage with.

But we’ve lost quite a lot of wandering.

I’ve been building an app called Serendipity around that problem: one page at a time from the open web, balancing relevance with enough discontinuity to surprise.

I've recently discovered porkbun.com and I'm fantasizing about making a personal website again... Especially learning a lot about digital gardens and carving out a space on the Internet for yourself (learn more here: harleyclaes.substack.com/p/create-you...). #indieweb #digitalgardens
A manifesto making the case that owning your own website instead of feeding a platform is basically punk (https://indiewebispunk.net). 🔗 https://myles.garden/2026/08/25/the-indieweb-is-punk-manifesto

@liztai You 'plug into networks' simply by listing seven blogs you read often. When everybody on the independent webs does that, that makes the network.

You use the network by noting all sites you might want to read often in an RSS reader. This defines a network which is personally yours.

🗺️ It is strange how the word "progress" brings combined feelings. ↗️ Why is the "scaling" in business important? 🚦Can we stop the scaling? 👩‍💻 "Distributed" is my favorite word these days. ✅ Migrating from the IT giants is in progress. 🔮 Maybe we will pay for AI only? #️⃣ #indieweb #vivaldibrowser #ddg

I love the purity and beauty of static sites, but a couple of things always stop me.

First, I write a lot: 2,000-word essays a couple of times a month. Therefore, I need a system that surfaces my posts via categories and other means.I frankly hate WordPress's Query Loop block, but at least it works.

The other thing holding me back is network effects. I'm currently on WordPress.com, and it plugs into ActivityPub, which in turn connects to Mastodon and allows interactions between Mastodon and my blog. I love that (though I know static websites can replicate ActivityPub in some way).

Besides that, my blog is plugged into WordPress.com's network, called The Reader. Not only can I find other WordPress.com blogs, but they can also find me, and it has been really nice to see several people stumble onto my blog that way. On top of that, I was lucky enough to be picked by WordPress to be highlighted in their Reader platform, which brought a flood of new subscribers and readers.

So while I love static websites, the network effects an ability to organize hundreds to thousands of posts
just aren't great.

But perhaps I'm wrong. Maybe people who are more familiar with static websites or services like Bear and PageCord can enlighten me.

Just remember that I'm not very fond of building static websites from the ground up or maintaining the backend. That's the reason why I still turn to platforms, as long as the format it uses is easily exportable and replicated on another platform. How do you guys plug into networks via your static websites?
