It’s becoming harder to find reliable sources of information on even the most basic news of the day. There are literally thousands of outlets that repackage the news, from television shows and news mags, to websites and blogs (including this one), but very few that are actually doing any first-hand reporting. Our sense of reality, once shaped by legacy media, is now subject to the biases of some schmuck with a newsletter, or a comedian’s YouTube channel. #Media #IndieWeb

I realize not everyone wants to read about politics and US Politics specifically, and I get that. This is what I decided to seclude my political essays into a subdomain that I call Bread And Roses. No paywall. Open to all. Take a look around. I’m still tinkering, but I like the look of it.
Check it out and share with those who might be interested.
Can somone remind me what the query string you add to your URL to force a cache refresh of a website? I changed the preview image of my website, but the mastodon server is keeping the old one. I remember you can add a query string to the end of the URL to get the server to fetch the new image, but I can’t remember what it is. Does it start with a question mark? Is it only a question mark?

Je trouve que @tcrouzet est trop sévère avec POSSE, mais je rejoins l'essentiel de son billet.
Every HTML-to-Figma tool loses something. Most hand you a clean result and don't say what.
UnHTML prints the losses next to the layers: every font it substituted, every frame it reverted to absolute, every image it skipped. A punch-list you can act on beats a confident guess that breaks weeks later.

The #indieweb is about making your own words translate to actions, especially actions like writing, editing, and publishing your words (or photos or other media) on your personal site. The IndieWeb community is a place to help and empower good faith folks to do so as well. People making what they need and optionally collaborating to do so.

We do encourage folks to document, open source, and share what they make, so others may benefit. However there is a difference between an encouragement to share openly, and implying any commitment of support to others, or an invitation for demands.

No one is entitled to demand that folks in the community, or the community as a whole, do something specific for others, whether it is as small as publishing some content or open sourcing some code, or supporting someone else’s protocol proposal or call to action on a survey or political action.
Anyone that wants to do that sort of thing is welcome to do it on their own, independently, or form their own affinity groups to do so.
We actually encourage the opposite of such demands, we encourage people to take breaks when they need to take care of more important life things:

P.S. The word ”warrior“ is not mentioned even once on the IndieWeb wiki (as of today).

Ok cinephiles, it’s that time of the month again! Join us tomorrow for a fun discussion about Charlie Chaplin.
Thanks to @trovster for the excellent topic selection. I haven’t revisited these classics since… college?
No RSVP needed, just click through at 10am Pacific:
Sorry to those I sent multiple webmentions to. But in related news, my webmention sender now (theoretically) knows how to tell how many new posts there were since the last build. Will hopefully publish stable versions of the libraries soon.
Belonging.
Groucho Marx once said, "Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read."
He also said, "I refuse to join a club that would have me as a member."
I followed a bit of a rabbit hole, today. I was reading Kelly Adams' post about the IndieWeb, and I started to think about groups. His question was whether or not he was in fact a part of the IndieWeb.

Every time I try to optimize a website, it either breaks everything, or makes it worse. I’m designing a blog over here, I shouldn’t need an engineering degree or a PhD in computer science. It’s words and pictures. It’s not solving world peace or trying to align satellites. So, my site doesn’t live up to Google’s expectations. Oh well. Tough shit.
