Time for another fun little blog event: Knowember, a "get to know your blogger" happening.

One photo, three questions, low pressure. Join any time in November.

Boosts are much appreciated, so more bloggers can find it. Thank you! 🙏

My website is not under an open license anymore.

I switched to the Filthy Human Hands license because I don't like Creative Commons's stance on slop machines and don't believe in "open source" anymore (see https://jak2k.eu/post/fuck-open-source).

I also removed my dependence on slop-infested IndieWeb services. I already use my own IndieAuth server, but now removed Webmention support because that was running over Webmention.io. I don't think I'll add support for it again because I didn't get any mentions anyway. Maybe I'll get rid of IndieAuth too…

Why does Persistwise keep three copies of every post?

The Wayback snapshot is public and lives on archive.org. The IPFS copy is pinned through Pinata onto the public network, and its content ID points at that exact version, so any gateway can serve it. The saved copy sits on our own storage, so there's something to fall back on when an outside service is slow or down.

Each one covers a different way things go wrong.

Webmention for long or short posts

I finally got around to making a proper page for my projects. Bear Blog themes and add-ons, community blogging events, and a few small experiments, all in one place.

Independent publishing involves more than writing. Distribution, discoverability, infrastructure and audience relationships all matter. The content is important, but so is the system that supports it.

murad.monster is made with bruteglue, my fork of Hotglue (by Gottfried Haider and Danja Vasiliev).

You edit the page right in the browser and drop text, photos, GIFs and video wherever you like, like a collage. Rotate, crop, add filters, lock the background. No theme and no database, so the page looks like whoever made it.

For an artist's site I don't know a better way.

Runs in Docker, free software (GPL):

50 bloggers now have a /photo page 🥳

Would love to see more. Let me know if you create one, and I'll add you to the list.

📢 Account move notification

Almost everything is ready to move my social home to @fabio (@fabio@manganiello.tech).

The new account runs on #Yonder.

Yonder is a social platform I’ve been working on for a while, and I’ll soon write about it more in detail.

It’s an #ActivityPub server written in #Rust and fully compatible with Mastodon and Pleroma/Akkoma, plus with other #Indieweb features I like (#Webmentions, and #OpenID coming).

Plus it implements features (like on-demand remote fetch of statuses/threads context, support for Threadiverse-like actors, OAuth-based account migration that also includes posts and interactions without needing to move CSV files around, better storage management…) that I’ve wanted in those platforms for a while but I’ve struggled to get merged.

If you follow me here, you can hit the follow button on the new account (and if you don’t, don’t worry, my followers will be migrated at some point between today and tomorrow).

Recently, I went to a book launch of a travel memoir. While talking about the book's evolution, the author said something like, “You can find the first ideas if you scroll 5 years on my Instagram.” And I said to myself: “ I don’t want to scroll on Instagram; I want that to be a blog category and just click it”.
