@accordionpolar Absolutely agree, having a good and welcoming group of people always helps. And the people in the #indieweb IRC channels seem very pleasant. It takes a lot of that "n00b" fear away.
I felt the same way about Discord, too, until I found the right group. Now I run a small private server and I take care to be very welcoming and friendly to new people, especially if they're new to Discord.
Off topic - I could watch your avatar spin all day, it's very soothing. :D

So I joined the #indieweb IRC channel and GOD why does it take so damn long for me to get used to using #IRC whenever I use it? I can never remember commands even though I was using this stuff for YEARS back in the day. And I always feel like such a newbie when I get on IRC.
I don't know why I am so intimidated about it, it just seems like some side of the internet that I was not supposed to be on (which is just my imposter syndrome talking, I know).

A related #IndieWeb and #Webmention riff:
Add #IndieAuth to your website and allow others to sign in. Theyâd be able to view a dashboard of the content theyâd posted that made its way onto your website. Maybe add some lightweight self-service moderation controls?

Dipping my toe into The #IndieWeb DiscourseâŚ
Nothing dictates that receiving a Webmention means youâre bound to display its source content on your website.
You couldâŚ
⢠forward the Webmention to your email,
⢠build a private notifications dashboard (with or without a moderation queue),
⢠add a link to the source page to your website without including its content,
⢠do something wild like set up an auto responder to the original author thanking them for the like/boost/reply,
⢠etc. etc. etc.

Adding comments / Webmentions to Cybercultural is on my to-do list, but seems like some in the 11ty community are thinking about ditching them. I personally like the implementation in Robbâs site (check his blog to see), and itâs a great discovery mechanism for readers â like trackback used to be. Wonder if any #IndieWeb folks have thoughts? https://social.lol/@robb/111911781340890722

All this sudden attention to the fact that social media replies (loosely defined as #Webmentions) to your blog posts are likely coming from people who have utterly no clue that they are also being published on your blogs, where were you last month when the push from some of the #IndieWeb to "#ActivityPub everything" was being questioned. đ
More seriously: welcome to the debate.
